A medical condition such as asthma, diabetes or cancer, that exists prior to the date that new health coverage starts. ACA qualifying major medical plans cannot deny coverage or charge more due to pre-existing conditions. However, alternative and supplemental health plans like short term medical can do so and may not cover individuals with pre-existing conditions.
